Integrate Video and audio recording into website

Hi everyone,

We would like to have a feature on our site that allows members to record audio and video of themselves and then save this on their local hard drive. Can anyone suggest a free or very afforable way of doing this?

The only thing I've found so far that's open source is Opentok but we'd have to create an app from scratch so I'd prefer if we could find a pre-made plugin to do this.

Thanks for your help,

D

Does the video need to be stored in the cloud somewhere?  Otherwise, why would a user do this when any new computer already has the function?  And any mobile device with video already has an app?

Thanks padas.

We want to store the video and audio on a user's computer but then be able to access this through the website? We already have an online journal and thought it would be a good idea to add video and voice journalling also.

I think you almsot have to create your own app using adobe air or a java applet app to talk to the browser/local machine.  Otherwise, html5 http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/file/filesystem/ may be an answer.  I have not seen this done yet.

It seems though there could be resource issues and it would just be easier to record my video using facetime on the mac or whatever it is the pc has and use imovie etc to do this.  Sound only may be a lot easier and I would look at soundcloud.com.
