Hi,

I am planning to take a certification for 70-415 Implementing a Desktop Infrastructure. I need to setup a lab for practicing for this exam at my home. What are the Hardware and Software Requirements for 70-415 Implementing a Desktop Infrastructure certification? Are there any lab setup or installations/setup that I need to do at my home and where can I purchase ebooks for preparing for this certification. Can you please provide the URLs of the ebook vendors for this certification from where I can purchase the ebooks?

Please reply as soon as possible.

Thanks and Regards,

Sriram.

Get VMWARE ESXi and install it on your workstation.  Make sure you have enough space.

Download the eval versions of Server 2012 from MS (you have 120 days to evaluate.)
you would need to have a version of windows 7.

install server 2012 as a VM. Install windows 7 as a VM.

Hi,
Thanks for your quick response.
I need detailed hardware and software requirements. OS is Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. Will Hyper-V do instead of VMWare as Hyper-V in built in in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. I need to know how many Windows Server 2012 I need to set up and the number of Windows 8 clients to be set up. Also, I need to know whether I need additional software other than Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 and how much GB of RAM is required and the processor required. Will i3 do? I also need to know whether any publisher has already published ebooks for this certification that I can buy online.

Please respond and revert for any questions.

Thanks and Regards,
Sriram.

If you plan on installing windows server 2012 outside the 180 day evaluation, you must find hardware that will support the installation of windows 2012 server as well as have two nics to handle the VMs.

Alternatively, you could use an existing workstation with a sufficient amount of storage space and process/memory to run a VirtualMachine of Server 2012 and a single workstation. should be enough for the first stage of capturing images.  You can use the image you capture to create a second desktop VM deploying the image.

Start with something that does not cost you anything.
If you then see that the setup is insufficient for your testing and you require the hardware on which to install 2012, you can using your VM testing experience spec out the hardware you need to install 2012 and handle hyper-v etc.

This exam seems to have been released December 12 2012.

Is this certification needed for your Job, or are you trying to get ahead of the curb and get this certification to get a job?
What is your current/existing certification?  This exam has a requirement for, "Candidate’s should have experience with previous Windows Server Operating systems and have their Windows 2012 Server certification (MCSA) or equivalent skills."

Hi,
Thanks for your response. I have already worked on Windows Server 2012 and I need this certification to upgrade my skill sets.

My requirement is for lab setup. For 70-415 Implementing a Desktop Infrastructure course, I just need to know how many physical Windows 2012 Servers we need to install and how many Windows 8 clients we need to install for this exam. if this exam can be setup using a single Windows Server physical machine with other OSs being setup as VMs within the single physical machine, I need to know how many Hyper-V Windows Server 2012 VM OSs and Windows 8 VM OSs I need to install on my physical machine. Does this exam require Windows Sever 2012 standard edition or is it necessary to install the Windows Server 2012 Data Center edition. What are the other software apart from Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 client I need to install for my lab set up at my home? Does my physical machine require two NICs?

Please revert as soon as possible.

Thanks and Regards,
Sriram.

You need just a single Windows physical machine.

You don't need any licence because MS products give you 180 day trial licence.

Also you do not need esxi inside Vmware workstation. At the most you need VMware workstation but if you use Hyper-V then you can omit that. Or use Virtualbox/VMware player (Both are free).

For desktop products you may only get a 30 day licence but that is all you need.

Hi,

Thanks for your quick response. As suggested by you, I will use a single Windows 2012 physical machine. Should it be a standard edition or data center edition. How many Windows Server 2012 OS Hyper-V OS VMs and how many Windows 8 client Hyper-V OS VMs should I install on  my physical Windows Server 2012 physical system to practice all the labs for the 70-415 Implementing a Desktop Infrastructure to acquire the skill sets?

Thanks and Regards,
Sriram.

Hi,

It requires six Windows 2012 standard edition virtual machines installed on a base machine to perform all the labs to pass the Microsoft Certification exam. Regards, Sriram.K
