Hi,

As title mentions "ZFS: LSI on HP NL40: is there a way to get into this BIOS?", I'm not sure if the known bug means you cannot get into BIOS at all or not always.

Please clarify.

Reason: I like ZFS but I'm not that much impressed about performance untill now.
I might consider configuring SSD RAID for 1 ESXi. Single point of failure now would be my NAS, with ESX that would be the ESX-server (have only 3 esx-es of which mostly only 1 runs so redundancy would be the same).

try

1. different PCI express slots
2. disable on board NIC
3. disable on board NIC for boot from LAN

otherwise NO, known bug logged with HP, unlikely now to fix, due to price point of server, and very few users, that go silly upgrading them!

I would suggest log SR with HP support, more people that log, may get fixed.

if used in JBOD mode, not required.

Note: does the LSI sometimes prevent booting Microserver? If not, I could replace the rac-card in Nexenta ZFS with a dual-nic card ....

it can sometimes cause booting and POST issues, it's not specific to the LSI card, any card with a BIOS, e.g. any storage controller, including HP's own Smart Array 410
