Q1:
How many DIMM slots can Lenovo X220 support?

Q2:
Suppose I currently has 1 pc 2GB DIMM, what are the
DIMM sizes I need to get to reach a total RAM of 8GB?

Q3:
What are the DIMM sizes available for X220?
2GB, 4GB, 6GB, 8GB ?

Q4:
I noticed some of the latest Macbooks come with 8GB
RAM.  Any reason why they don't come with 6GB or
10GB or ??  Does laptops (I'm contemplating Win 7
Lenovo X220) RAM sizes has to be 2, 4, 8 GB sizes
(ie 2 to the power x) & it's unnatural to have 6GB or
10GB ?

Hi sunhux, the X220 has 2 slots for max 8GB RAM, so you would need 2 x 4GB RAM. They have 1, 2, 4GB DIMMs available, so you could have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 8 GB total RAM from those combinations. Lenovo recommends matching pairs but any will work, the X220s are pretty solid, we have three of them. The good thing is that 8GB RAM will only cost you about $50 so just toss out whatever is in there and upgrade to 8GB. Note that if you have a 32-bit OS you will not gain anything from having more than 4GB.

The latest MacBook Pros can support 16GB again with only two slots so 8GB makes sense from that perspective.

Hope that helps...
Terry

It's 64 bit Windows 7, so should be able to detect the full 8GB.

If I have existing 2GB, plus one pc of 8GB, so I'll have 10GB useable,
right?  Some Proliant servers I've encountered won't accept such
mixed DIMM sizes, thus, I'm enquiring here

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

Yes servers are a more rigorous about RAM. Desktops and laptops are not, and of course they are not so reliable either!

For the 10GB useable are you talking about the X220? That will only take 8GB max

I usually get RAM from Crucial. Here is a link to 8GB kit which is 2 x 4GB DIMMs. You have to toss out the 2GB you have and replace it with one of the 4GB DIMMs and put the other 4GB in the other slot

In the links above, there are people who claimed that X220 could recognize
up to 16GB RAM though officially X220 is published to support up to 8GB
only.  If I were to get one piece of 8GB DIMM, then with my existing 2GB
DIMM, shouldn't I get 10GB in total?

Awesome I didn't know that. Worth trying though if you can RAM to fit. And yes that would work 8GB + 2GB - IF it supports 16GB like they are claiming. Might try it myself now
