Exchange 2007 backup problem

Hello

I'm getting Error 565 when doing Exchange 2007 backup. It says:

'The consistency check for the component '01f131c7-4460-4bc2-b758-7df847a959ba'\'Microsoft Exchange Server\Microsoft Information Store\EXCHANGE' has failed. The application 'Exchange' will not be available in the backup created at '¿2013¿-¿01¿-¿03T01:00:21.184215900Z'. Review the event details for information about consistency check issues.'

In the messages window of Windows Server Backup I see: completed with warnings.
My transaction logs are not truncated.

Then I get warnings 9871 saying:

'There is an online maintenance overlap for database "Third Storage Group\1st Aux MailStore". Please revise the online maintenance schedule.'

for all of the databases

and then 9782:

'Exchange VSS Writer (instance 5a7a8d89-930f-4898-991e-cb8ecaa9d016:22) has unsuccessfully completed the backup of storage group 'First Storage Group'. No log files have been truncated for this storage group.'

...again, for all storage groups

and then event 2007:

'Information Store (4636) Shadow copy instance 22 aborted.
For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.'

and that's it.

Any idea how I can fix it and what is actually broken ?

For clarification - what version of Exchange is this? SP1, SP2, SP3?
You are using Windows Backup? on Windows 2008 or 2008 R2?

Has the server been rebooted since the erros occured?
Anything else on the server? AV software configured with the correct exclusions?

Simon.

You have no file level AV on the server at all?

It could happen because of numerous reasons ,including the database corruption
so you can look for these few things-
1)checked for any antivirus scanning at the same time as backup or any live update impeding with  backups.
2)check for shadow storage space if its too less using command -vssadmin list shadowstorage
Ideally it should be 10% of the volume size; which you can edit by using this command
   vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage /For=D: /On=D: /maxsize=15%
3)check for any inconsistencies in edb database using kb

1. I have no file level AV on that server.
2. Do you really think it can be the reason ? backup was fine for a long time. Can you recommend any article telling about it ? Is it safe to change that value ?
3. I checked all the databases and logs and they are not corrupted.

Backup log says the the consistency check fails for- '01f131c7-4460-4bc2-b758-7df847a959ba'\'Microsoft Exchange Server\Microsoft Information Store\EXCHANGE'.

What is it ? How can I identify it ?

1)If it was a onetime error it could also occur if windows live update or microsoft exchange database maintenance was scheduled at the same time as backup, you could verify that using event viewer

2)Yes its safe to change that value as long as you have enough space on the volume
for further details go to this link

http://blogs.technet.com/b/timmcmic/archive/2012/03/29/backups-fail-due-to-consistency-check-failure.aspx

3)Have you verified it using eseutil/k on both database and logfile?

1) I get it for every backup job
3) yes

2) I just changed it and after firing the backup manually, after few seconds I can see the same error in the event viewer, it appears when System Reserved part is processed, long before databases part.

-Have you checked vssadmin list writers they should be all stable and ready especially exchange writer. If any of them is failing or not in stable state then let me know?
-If all is fine with writers then also check vssadmin list providers there should be only microsoft one listed in there if there is any one else listed in there then we need to delete that one from registry

I'm sorry I was off on holiday, so couldn't reply...

SO you're getting same error everytime you run the backup, is it possible that you're running backup at the same time everytime, as the below error indicates an exchange maintainence activity at the same time as backup, resulting in failure
'There is an online maintenance overlap for database "Third Storage Group\1st Aux MailStore". Please revise the online maintenance schedule.'
For further details go to-
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb629590%28v=exchg.80%29.aspx

If that doesn't help then please post the new error message again with the system and application logs at the time of failure.

Recently, I started using backup exec to backup my exchange server. I'm doing the full backup and I get the warning about 2 files not backed up. They are some low level leftovers from ArcServe D2D I tested some time ago. Is it possible that it was the same problem with Windows Backup?

That message I was getting was very enigmatic and I would really like to know what was it about:
''The consistency check for the component '01f131c7-4460-4bc2-b758-7df847a959ba'\'Microsoft Exchange Server\Microsoft Information Store\EXCHANGE' has failed. The application 'Exchange' will not be available in the backup created at '¿2013¿-¿01¿-¿03T01:00:21.184215900Z'. Review the event details for information about consistency check issues.'
'

As for these maintenance schedules, its quite surprising as they are running after the backup completes and I still get the warnings. Is it possible that they collide with each other ? I have it setup at the same time window for 4 databases.

I'm closing this question as I'm not getting anything useful for this one.
As I said already, these errors were caused by some leftover virtual drivers after I uninstalled D2D (that's really great ArcServe, very good uninstaller, well done).
Windows backup errors were very enigmatic and I had to use BE 2012 to see what it was all about.
As for the maintenance schedule overlap, I already said that my backup is running on different time and most likely these errors are there because my maintenance window was set at the same time for all 4 databases. I changed it so every database has its own separate time windows and I will see if there will be any improvement.
