How to style video using CSS?

I'm familiar with how to embed a Vimeo video.  I'd like to strip it down more so only a large play button is visible in the middle.  Once the video begins player, a timeline will appear at the bottom.  This isn't any different than the videos on the homepage of http://www.experts-exchange.com and their TEDx video, shown below.

The video here does the same thing: http://amelie-demo.squarespace.com.

Can the Vimeo video be styled that way or does Vimeo have complete control over what appears on the video?  Do those changes require a premium subscription ($50/yr)?

Some of the options I like and have used include http://videojs.com/ and http://flowplayer.org/

In short, you are using javascript to manage this.  You start out with an image the same size as the video and clicking on it just switches out the image for the video.   On the sample site, you will see that it just goes to a default vimeo player.  Check out floweplayer and videojs.  I think they will get you want you want to do.
