I need help setting up a Syslog server. I need to capture the logs of my Cisco ASAs on this server so I can check these logs at a later time.

Is there a software or program know to work well to do this task and that complies with FINRA and HIPPA and preferably free?

How much capacity should I allocate to collect these logs?

Thanks for your help.

There are many. As far as specific FINRA/HIPAA compliance, syslog server programs are part of a compliance strategy. If you want a specific signoff that a product is deemed 'HIPAA-compliant', then you'll likely have to get that from the company that makes the sofware.

Not a ton of free ones out there...here's an example of a basic product that doesn't cost a ton.

It once was a free product, but no longer. Not too bad, though.

Here's a free one...

As far as size, that all depends on your retention plans/needs. How long will you be retaining the logs?

Question, do we need to set a retention time or could we manually clear up the logs? We are planning to have a retention time for a month or maybe a bit more.

Sure. Set it for the amount of time you want to retain and just watch the log sizes as you move forward through time. You should be all set.
