Microsoft DPM Agent issues

Hey,

I am being driven mad by a problem and am hoping someone else has come across it. I have DPM 2012 running (this issue was also occurring with 2010 so I think it is not version specific) backing up 20 servers. It works perfectly on 17 on those servers. The 3 servers which it is having problems on are a webserver and a pair of clustered SQL servers all on Server 2008 R2 as are all the other servers in our system.

I have manually installed the agent on these servers, run SetDPMServer.exe and when this is run they connect and can backup. about an hour or so after this runs the DPM server loses connection to them and the agent errors out. I am presuming this is due to a GPUpdate from the GPOs considering the timing.

I have been through all the firewall settings and recreated them within the GPO's to make sure they match what is there when the SetDPMServer is run manually. Does anyone know what else the SETDPMServer.exe is doing apart from firewall settings?

The servers have Windows Firewall with advanced security running.

I have set inbound and outbound rules allowing the dpmserver ip address any connections to any port through sheer annoyance having previously copied all the specific ports and rules that the dpm agent sets up itself to no avail.

The DPM server gives me error 270 which is saying it cannot communicate. I cannot find an answer to this anywhere, help!

Thanks

Naomi

Finally got somehwere. Due to something odd specific to those servers the DPM admin accounts were being wiped out. Fixed!
