Our Windows Server 2003 Web Edition (32-bit) we can no longer do Windows Updates. It gives the error message 0x80072EFE.
I have tried everything from renaming the softwaredistribution folder and catroot2 folder. Ran scans with Malwarebyte's and TSDDKiller (no issues found). Uninstalled IE8 so that it would go to IE7. Disabled Windows firewall and F-PROT anti-virus.
The only interesting thing that I see is that when using IE, I can't get to certain websites like bankofamerica.com or lmcu.org (gives page cannot be displayed). However I can get to chase.com. So the issue is not with HTTPS. I'm thinking it has to do with SSL, but I have cleared IE settings (including SSL state). I have verified the time on the server.
Mozilla Firefox can pull up bankofamerica.com and lmcu.org just fine.
Note: There are no proxy servers.
Anyone have any luck using the Mozilla add-on that can do Microsoft Updates? Or if anyone has any other suggestions? I can post the windowsupdate.log if needed.
