Windows Phone 8 Not Syncing correclty with Exchange server

Having lots of trouble with a new  Verizon Nokia Lumina 822 running Windows Phone 8.0

Have a hosted Exchange Server service that is currently on Exchange 2007. We have lots of iPhones (3, 4, 4s, & 5) and also a lot of varying Droids of different vintages from different carriers. All the Droids and iPhones sync flawlessly with Exchange. This is the first Windows phone in our office. The autodiscovery worked to find the Exchange mail server correctly and populated the correct mail server name. However now the syncing of the Calendar and contacts is very flaky at best. We will get most often get an error "0" or "80072EFD" along with a "not up to date" status on the phones email account (under where it has the account listed under "email + account". All the threads i've read on this don't really point to anything but its very frustrating that a Microsoft Phone doesn't work as wel as an Apple or Google OS when trying to sync to a Microsoft Exchange server. The phone says its software is up to date when i initiate a manual software update. It doesn't even let me delete the email account. I already tried unchecking and re-checking all the boxes. There doesn't seems to be much in the way of options on the phone to affect any of this either. If I connect to the office Wifi that doesn't seems to help either. Anyone have a solution out there on this?

If you visit https://testexchangeconnectivity.com and run the Exchange Activesync test using the same credentials you are trying to use on the Windows 8 phone, what results do you get?

Do you get all Green Ticks - everything is fine?

Do you get an error?  If so - what error?

Can you add the same account to an iPhone / Droid happily?

Test is successful. Yes on adding his account. I'm certain the issue is with the device. I just discovered more weirdness to it. Email sync good both ways between the device and Outlook. On the Calendar if i make the appointment in Outlook it shows up on the phone. If i make the appt on the phone then it doesn't show up in Outlook. If I look at the details on the phone for the appointment made on the phone it shows "Calendar - Microsoft account" . The ones that are pushed from Outlook to the phone say "Calendar - (What the account is named on the phone)" which is odd. There is only one account listed under "email+account" on the phone.

Time to factory reset the phone I would think and start again  (or return it and swap it for an iPhone!!)

After the factory reset, the same result. But then we discovered that we could change the default Calendar away from the "Calendar - Microsoft account" to the exchange one on the phone.

I think the only remaining "severe" issue it that it won't recognize deleting contacts from the phone.

Good news.  Is there also a "Contacts - Microsoft account" that is messing up the contacts sync?

Thats the first thing we checked. When you put in a contact on the device, it makes you choose the account at that time. The additions are working, however, just not the deletions.

Unfortunately I don't know the Windows phones now.  I used to have a Windows Mobile phone and switched to iPhone a long time ago and then went back to a Windows Phone for about 2 weeks until I got pissed off with HTC's stupid insistence that I had to put the PIN into the phone every time I used it and that I was the only person in the world who found an issue with it (see my blog - http://alanhardisty.wordpress.com/2010/09/23/htc-hd2-screen-lock-prompt-for-pin-every-time-phone-turned-on-fix/)

I don't know anyone with a Windows Phone 8 device and have never ever seen one, so can't offer any advice other than from an Exchange point of view.

If you add the contact to OWA and it appears on the phone, then delete the contact from OWA, does it also delete from the phone?

Windows phone has been behaving itself must have been a software update that fixed it.
