We have recently had a virus outbreak, and it had spread by putting autorun.inf in the root directory.

Is there a way we can stop autorun.inf from running automatically using group policy?

This is a very good Article describing exactly how to do this. Since I have done this myself 3 years ago, I'm glad that it's still in place ;)
