cant seem to remove white background from image

Hi all, I have been trying for a while to remove this white background without....  damaging the quaility of the image, I need to have it so it has a trasnparent background as .png

can anyone render or fix this issue for me, I am doing this for a promotion for a friend for a summer camp

No problem! If you have Photoshop, the tip for using the Magnetic Lasso is to click often, dropping points as you go. If you mess up, hit delete to get rid of the last one you dropped.

NB when you open the image, don't work on it as the background - cut it, and paste it into a new layer.
