You can install the Oracle 11g client (why not go with the latest and greatest) and it will talk to Oracle 9i, 10g and 11g just fine.
If you needed to talk to Oracle 8i, the 10.2 client would be as high as you could go.
I have the 11g client on my machine and I regularly connect to databases from 9.2.0.4 up to 11.2.0.3

I will admit to not being 100% sure on that but I believe that if your application is 32 bit, you're probably better off using the 32 bit Client.
There may be others who can shed more light on this.
The research I've been doing is giving conflicting results. You may have to try both and see which works. Fortunately, the Oracle Client is easy to uninstall for a "do over" if needed.

It seems that my application goes only with 10.2.0.5 oracle-
So i have to install 10.2.0.5 client 0n windows 7 64 bit
Can you tell what is the workflow for it.
Install 10.2.0.3 and then patch it to upgrade it to 10.2.0.5
Correct?

According to: Where to get the 10.2 Oracle Database Client Software for Windows 2008 / 7? [ID 1471474.1] the Oracle 10.2 software has been removed from Oracle's website since it's been deprecated.
You can open an SR with Oracle to have them setup a special download for you or to mail you media.
If you have the install files already, you'd need to read the install instructions for what you have - sometimes it was a cumulative install on top of something else, sometimes it was a complete and free standing install.

Then hopefully you have the install media for the versions you need. You'll have to carefully read the installation instructions for what you have and install as directed in the documentation for what you do have.
