PHP UML Modeller and generate code

Back in my old uni days I used Rational Rose which was great, I could do my UML diagrams, and generate my code for Java.

Ive just started with PHP OOP, and decided to look for a package that would allow me to do my class diagrams and generate the code for PHP, but cant belive how hard it is.

I would prefer  the software to be free for personal user, so tried:-
Umbrello - Community
Visual Paradigm for UML
StarUML

Through work I have Microsoft Visio, but it doesn't have PHP code generation built in

What do other people use to develop their diagrams, or is it just easier to do what Im doing at the moment, and code from the diagrams instead of it being automatic.

Thank you

What you're asking for is something that likely works well in true OOP coding languages. Albeit, PHP has come a long way to be more "object oriented", it's more like Perl 5.x in that sense. In that it will support the look and feel of objects, properties and methods. It even does inheritance pretty decently. But when it comes to method overloading and overriding, PHP falls quickly out of that window.

Now, don't get me wrong here. I have a massive affinity for PHP and have adapted quite nicely to most of its shortcomings, but in reference to your question, I'm sure that what you're looking for can be done, but it will either be something someone would need to write as a standalone application or that nobody will pursue since I have not really encountered too many developers that would even use UML as part of their software planning processes anymore. And I don't say that to disrespect you, it's just that I've been a programmer for over 25 years and am strictly speaking from 2.5 decades of looking back. UML has great value, but the PHP developers, including myself, that I have encountered, rarely, if ever, think in terms of UML when scoping out a project.
