Search in OUTLOOK 2010 quits working

Since our exchange server mailbox database (EXCH 2010) /SBS2011) was corrupted and repaired (with lingering issues like "Fail to sync with Smartphones"), users are complaining that Search in OUTLOOK 2010 quits working. Whenever that happens, I check "Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer" in Services.msc on SBS2011, it shows "Started". But I have to restart this service to get the Search working again in OUTLOOK for several days. And then it quits working after several days.

Is there a permanent solution to this?

I assume its an issue with the Index .... how many Mailbox DB's do you have and did you try to rebuild the CatalogIndex folder

sgleeAuthor Commented:
I have about 20 individual mailboxes in one mailbox database and one public database.

Based on expert's recommendation, I ran " .\ResetSearchIndex.ps1 -Force -All " from "C:\Program Files\microsoft\exchange server\v14\scripts" several times, but this problem does not go away.

Office 2010 SP Update Error@apache09
When I tried to apply Office 2010 Service Pack (officesuite2010sp1-kb2460049-x86-fullfile-en-us.exe), I got a message posted above.

@Rancy
I am currently downloading Exchange 2010 SP2. Do I need to apply it in the evening (after all users are gone) and restart the SBS2011 for SP2 to take effect?

Manpreet SIngh KhatraSolutions Architect, Project LeadCommented:
Yes its prefer to be done after hours ... cant say weekend as its almost 4 days to go but you should plan for it

OK. I will do it this Friday night instead. I will keep you posted.

Do you think this SP2 will address the problem?
It is a fact that The Search fuction in OUTLOOK has been always working without SP2 until Exchange Database Corruption & Repair and I wonder how applying SP2 can help this problem go away.

I have not created a new DB in Exchange before, so I do not know pros and cons of doing it.
Secondly, I had to disable one user mailbox and recreate his mailbox after the Exch Database repair and it appears that I need to do the same to a few more mailboxes due to primarily sync outlook on smart phones.
But I am hestitant to create a new Exchange DB due to uncertainty.

No Cons of it ... Pros are many depending on the scenario as of today all users affected if had been 2DB's not all users would have been affected and DB size is also small for any activity

No you wont have to if you simply move them across .... as i guess you didnt do ISINTEG

i guess you didnt do ISINTEG  ---> during the repair process, I have done that. But I could do it again. I have to unmount the exchange database to perform this, correct?

I hear you. Let me think about that.

Meanwhile I checked EventViewer and I see a bunch of ERRORS related to Exchange & Shairpoint Search just for today only. These events in APP section are filling up the max. size; therefore I do not see any errors older than today.  I wonder if I should focus on removing these errors first or do a database repair or go for a completely new DB?

Not much genius with Sharepoint but Exchange Errors can surely be taken care by the creation of new DB and move mailbox .... maybe this in turn might help the Sharepoint as that too saves data

Creating a new mailbox database was very simple. I created one in my SBS2011 server.
Now how do I move existing mailbox into this new mailbox?
And how do I tell Outlook to connect to the new mailbox database?

Manpreet SIngh KhatraSolutions Architect, Project LeadCommented:
Outlook will auto connect and to move a mailbox right click on the mailbox in EMC ... Local move request and select the new DB and hit move

Test Mailbox Database PathMailbox Move - Destination PathMailbox Move 1
When I created a TEST mailbox database, it created it in a default folder (please see 3rd pic) - C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\TestDB\TestDB.edb

When I tried to move current mailbox database (pic 1), it asked me to provide the path (Pic 2).
Do I enter C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\TestDB in Database File Path field?

I thought that I would be importing the contents of original mailbox database into TestDB, but I guess it is a different process ...
