The user is unable to see a website and is receiving the following error: Exception in "Thread-1" java.lang.ClassFormatError: Incompatible magic value 49 in class file java/awt/AWTEvent. I have uninstalled JAVA 1.7 and reinstalled 1.6. She has a program called QTP that is working okay. However, some say QTP is the problem. I am hoping you can give me a resolution to  this issue, so I won't have to reimage her workstation.

To confirm: Is QTP HP QuickTest Professional?

If so have you already tried renaming the environmental variables as outlined here: http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Quality-Center-Support-and-News/QTP-env-issues-related-to-JAVA/td-p/4724343

From wikipedia page for QTP: "It relies on largely obsolete Windows-only technologies such as ActiveX and VBScript which is not an Object Oriented Language."

QTP is a good candidate for the cause if they are running on a fully current windows 7 or windows 8.

A second possibility is that JAVA has been compromised.  The current state of security vulnerability is so high that Homeland Security recommends disabling JAVA until Oracle can put out a patch to fix the mistakes in the last security patch they issued.  AV software may not be able to detect infected JAVA components.

Apparently Oracle tried to push out a patch yesterday:
