Adobe Illustrator won't open: Not enough memory

It's a Windows 7 professional 64bit machine, with 4GB RAM. Everytime I try to open Adobe Illustrator, it show an error message during the splash screen, saying not enough memory. I restarted and still have the same problem.

Could be too many temp files?
Try running the windows  disc cleanup and delete all Temp and thumbnail views
empty recycle bins whatever it finds. Defrag the drive.
You could also use Ccleaner but becareful what you allow it to delete
Check your settings for size and location of the page file.

I did disk cleanup and deleted everything that came up in the operation. Didn't work. Closing this for now. Had someone else open the file and make a much needed JPEG file out of it.

Ok thanks bobox00
doesn't explain or assist me to assist you as to why your Illustrator wouldn't open?
Could be an instance is already running in the background?
Since no one else has commented you can just delete this then.
cheers Merete
