Swype and keyboard stopped working

The swype and keyboard input functions stopped working on my wife's Droid Razer Maxx.
Have tried rebooting to no avail. The keyboard appears but there is a small orange line between the t and f keys, which wasn't there before. Do I have any alternatives besides taking it into Verizon tech repair?

That's a strange one.  It sounds unlikely to be a software problem.

But.. if you're keen to avoid a tech repair, try a couple of alternative Keyboards first.  
Something like SlideIT (for a swiper) and Magic Keyboard (for a tapper).

If they both work, it might be worth trying:
- uninstalling Swype (to completely remove it)
- turning the phone on/off
- reinstalling Swype

We took it into tech repair and they simply gave her a new phone. But that was a good suggestion.
