open and checkout disabled on ribbon in IE9
Out of the box shared documents library. Ribbon functions correctly in Firefox, but not IE9 which disables many parts even though I'm the site admin, When I use the right arrow to perform operations rather than selecting the item and using the ribbon, it all works fine in both browsers. The ribbon seems to be the only problem. I understand how the ribbon changes based on what sort of content is selected. I'm positive I have the doc selected (highlighted in blue and checked), so the context is correct for them to be enabled.
Do I have to do some sort of stupid entry in IE because of it's paranoid over protectiveness? I've added the sharepoint site to the trusted zone, but it didn't fix it.

I don't think the hack in that article is the right answer and could affect upgrades as other users mentioned there. Any other ideas? I'm stumped.
