Microsoft CRM 4.0 Rollup 14 EMails nor sending through Workflows

I had a problem today where some of my users were not able to send emails by running workflows designed to send emails.  I was able to run the same workflows and the emails sent just fine. These workflows always worked fine for everyone in the past.  Version of Outlook and IE does not seem to matter.
I tried adjusting settings in IE for trusted sites, checking that Allow Outlook to send CRM email was checked, closing and reopening Outlook and rebooting clients.  Finally I rebooted the server and this seems to have fixed the problem.
There were no entries in the Sent Items in Outlook or in the history in CRM for the EMails that did not send.  There were no errors in the Event log on the server relating to CRM.
Does anybody know what may have caused this problem and why rebooting corrected it?

This issue is normally caused by the Asynchronous service becoming idle. Instead of rebooting the server your first port of call should be to restart the Asynchronous service from services.msc

Workflows are executed by this process. When no user is in the system, give it a go stop the service and try fire off a work flow, you'll find it will fail or stay in a waiting condition of waiting for system resources.

It may also be worth while in services.msc setting the recovery properties on Asynchronous service to start should it fail to.

Thank you  Willdotb.  Any idea why it would work fine for me and not other users?  I am accustomed to a server issue such as this affecting everybody.

I re-applied Rollup 14 to the EMail Router and the problem seems to have gone away.

I picked my solution because that is what worked.  Re-starting the Asynchronous service would help for a little while but rebooting would eventually be necessary.
