ZipMail Causes Outlook to hang

Hi,

We currently have an issue where Outlook 2010 Sp1 hangs when the Zipmail Add in is enabled. This is in a Citrix V6.5 environment. This occurs randomly, but most often occurs when clicking on the "paperclip" in outlook or when browsing to an attachment. When we disable the Zipmail add in the problem does not occur.

Any suggestions?

Do you have any other addin enabled on Outlook?

If yes it might be conflicting with ZipMail and causing the crash. I have experienced Office crashing because of conflicting addins.

Moreover, you can check the event viewer on the host server for any details of registered error messages - post them here if any.

Yes there are other plugins. Please find atatched the screenshot of what the user experiences as well as the list of plugins.

Can this be related to Data Execution Prevention?

I can't really tell you. It might be, and it might not be.

However, a C0000005 exception code is related to a memory reference crash. And this might be related to a corrupted DLL; or else a DLL that is older than the version that is needed to be accessed by ZipMail.

To isolate the issue, whether conflicting with other addins, or referencing an incompatible version of DLL file, first try to disable all addins except ZipMail. Then use the functionalities in ZipMail which used to crash Outlook, If it doesn't crash it, then try enabling each addin alone with ZipMail until you know which combination causes the crash. But it after disabling all, ZipMail still crashes outlook then it might be related to a DLL. Try in this case, updating Outlook with the latest patches and/or ZipMail if any.

Pre-caution! Be careful changing things in registry without having a backup and knowing what the dangers are!

Check the value "Load Behavior" under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\<Zip mail key>

What is the value? Try to change it to 3, if it is not that value already.

I've managed to resolve all of the errors except one. It seems that the errors where originating from 2 servers in the farm. My guess would be the installations got corrupt somehow. I removed and redeployed 2 new servers and the problems looks like they have been resolved

Outlook runs fine now with all add-ins disabled (GPO) with only ZipMail running. On occasion users now receive an error stating that:
outlook experienced a serious problem with the 'zipmail' add-in.........Do you want to disable this add-in?  Yes/No
Reg - LoadBehaviour - 3

I'm planning on running a repair on the server causing the error above, and i'll report back on the findings.
