Hi All,

forwhatever reason im unsure of yet, our PDC emulator is no longer the NTP time source, instead our PDC emulator points at a remote DC in another region and that DC points to its CMOS.

how can i get the PDC emulator to be the authorative time server again?
ive run
w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist:130.88.200.4,130.88.212.143
net stop w32time
net start w32time

commands succesful then within a few moments it reverts back to this remote DC

C:\Users\administrator.domain>w32tm /monitor
uaedc.domain.co.uk[10.5.1.10:123]:
    ICMP: 156ms delay
    NTP: +0.0014699s offset from DC1.domain.co.uk
        RefID: 'LOCL' [0x4C434F4C]
        Stratum: 1
DC1.domain.co.uk *** PDC ***[[fe80::b466:4633:6e4f:2015%14]:123]:
    ICMP: 0ms delay
    NTP: +0.0000000s offset from DC1.domain.co.uk
        RefID: uaedc.domain.co.uk [10.5.1.10]
        Stratum: 2
DC2.domain.co.uk[10.1.1.29:123]:
    ICMP: 0ms delay
    NTP: -0.0087746s offset from DC1.domain.co.uk
        RefID: DC1.domain.co.uk [10.1.1.27]
        Stratum: 3
MKDC.domain.co.uk[10.2.1.10:123]:
    ICMP: 8ms delay
    NTP: +0.0022060s offset from DC1.domain.co.uk
        RefID: DC1.domain.co.uk [10.1.1.27]
        Stratum: 3

Warning:
Reverse name resolution is best effort. It may not be
correct since RefID field in time packets differs across
NTP implementations and may not be using IP addresses.

any ideas?
Thanks

you running 2008r2?

you can control the NTP settings via group policy so that it will move with the PDCe role

if thats the version i can post up the steps to control it

yes running r2 and yes weve set it via gpo already, it gets overwritten!

ive run an rsop on my machine i can see it set via gpo there to 10.1.1.29 (DC2 as you see from the montior)

then i run a w32tm /query /source on my local machine, its pointing to DC1 then DC1 points to UAEDC and UAEDC to its local clock...

SO...
GPO overwritten somewhere
PDC Emulator is not the authoritative source

so from RSOP it shows that the time settings are the winning GPO

it would be a good idea to stick more logging onto w32tm to see what its doing

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816043

there should be an event logged to say why its lost its authoratative status

ive sorted it!

the uaedc had annouce flags set to 5 i set that to 10 and the actual pdc emulator took back over, wonder why the remote dc got precedence though when they both had the value as 5, youd think it the pdc would take precedence!
