How to manage/deploy 100+ iPads in a education environment
So I do consulting for a few schools around my area, one school has already purchased over 100 iPads and will do another 100 next year. They give them out to students to use for their books.
The problem they are having is the students are figuring out the restriction code and are downloading their own apps this is a High School so students know technology.
Each student has their own books so we can't just create a flat backup of an iPad and sync via cart.
I was wondering how other schools are dealing with this technology and if there is anything out there that could make security and deployment easier please let me know.
Does anyone have experience with anything particular?

Well they use a mix of applications, every publisher does not have their books available on iBooks they use their applications. So this makes is difficult to stream line the process.
What we do is just give the students their codes and they redeem the books themselves.
The school admins are more concerned to security. Right now the only security is the restrictions, but some of the student have been figuring out the codes, and when this happens they have to collect a large amount of iPads to change them.
Right now its only 100 iPads so it isn't as bad the issue would be next year when we have over 200 iPads.
I would have to collect all the current 100 iPads and setup the 100 new iPads.
There are so many solutions out there and they are mostly geared towards Business not education.

Thats good information but the students take the iPads home with them, like a business associate would.
They use the iPads for books (multiple applications, ex: McGraw Hill, Holt McDougal, & Bookshelf), notes, and web research.
Guided Access would only work for a single app and session.
I'm trying to see if theres a MDM which isn't so much directed at the corporate world but education you know.
There may not be answer for me just yet, was trying to see what others are seeing or can come up with.

You cant stop them though
Any student can connect the ipad to itunes and restore !!
I am a high school student and i am pretty sure that nothing can stop us :D, specially if we take the ipad home with us.
sorry for that

Iphonehelper,
I am aware of that and so is the school.
Just looking to see what other schools or school technicians are doing to turn the iPad which is not really designed for this purpose are doing.
Shamzi & R_Edwards,
I'll take a look at the articles and get back to you.

Couldn't get a definitive answer.
And yes you can, if the students are going to use ibooks for example to read books then you can restrict the device to only use ibooks
