Office 2007 vs office 2010

Hi

I have a client who uses Excel 2007 and also has excel 2010 installed on his machine.When he clicks on any excel file by default it opens with excel 2010 but he likes to use excel 2007 and wants it to be default. I tried to make excel 2007 default on folder option but  it is not working and it always opens excel 2010. I am wondering is there any registry setting that I can make changes so that all xls files are forced to open with excel 2007 only not excel 2010.

there is a way but unfortunately when you open excel 2010 it will revert back. What I hv done and worked temporarely is the following:
right click on any excel file and choose open with and from the list choose Excel 2007 and there is a button or a click that says open this as a default click it and it should open 2007 by default.

I already did that not work very successfully. MS promotes their latest product so badly that it needs to configured at registry level.

who told you it is a registry issue ?? u seem to be very sure of it. After you answer this I have an other suggestion.

I remember i made some registry changes when dealing with 2003 and 2007 together and thats why I thought it could be registry level, i am not sure though.

ok fine. I usually do the following when it comes to 2003 and 2007 but I do not like it much you fool the system but somehow not that wow.

I think you hv for 2010 folder office14 and 2007 office12 somehting like that in program files of program file x(86) under Microsoft Office folder

So what you do you locate Excel.exe in the 2007 folder take a copy and put it in the folder of 2010 naming it diffrent like Excel2007.exe

So you would endup in the folder 2010 with Excel.exe and Excel2007.exe
you rename the Excel.exe that is in the 2007 folder to Excel.old

You right click on any excel file open with and choose other and then browse and go find Excel2007.exe and click on default and ask to always use it.

Your welcome but I had some hickups with this maybe 2003 doesn't like it much but 2007 and 2010 are more best freinds !!! anwyway if you see excel hanging ... asking to reapir or something ... you will know that it is due to this always keep in mind that you did this we tend to forget as also running a main program with a diffrent name is also not too much welcomed anyway keep a close eye and you can still revert back to original anytime by deleting Excel2007.exe and renaming the old to new and opening with ... the real Excel that is in the office12.

This problem exist due to having Excel.exe the same application name but 2 diffrent version all we did is reflected in the name the fact that the application are diffrent.
