erase/destroy iomega ditto tapes

I am tasked with disposing of 10+ Iomega ditto drives, and need to ensure that the data is completely removed.  The drive is unavailable and I do not have access to one.
How do you recommend  removing the data from, or destroying the drives, quickly and efficiently?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Pick up a hammer and destroy all.

Don't think a hammer works with tape, you either have to degause it or just take the tape out of the cartridge and put it through a paper shredder a few times so it's chopped into little bits. You could probably melt it in a microwave oven like you do with CDs but burning plastic can release noxious gasses and I don't know enough about the composition of the backing to confirm that you wouldn't poison yourself.

Those are the all options I had considered; paid data destruction service, or physical destruction of the disks myself.  None of the options are perfect for this small amount of data.  The input you provided verify s that i did not miss any options.  Thanks.
