hi i have a windows 2003 domain and have in the passed setup dfs that was part of the os.

what i wanted to know is that after whatching some video, it stated that the windows 2003 r2 dfs has far more features than the old version of windows 2003.

qns1.  is it compatable with windows 2003 standard & where can i download it ?

qns2. if i have a files server running on a separate machine to my master dc, but then decide i want to run a 'dfs version', would i need to first remove the file server or what exactly ?

DRS-R is available in R2 (it's what's used in R2, if I remember correctly.  If you don't have R2, you cannot use it.  You cannot download it - it's part of R2.  If you want it now and don't have R2, then you need to buy Server 2012 Standard and use downgrade rights.  Even then, you may have difficulty obtaining media.

Don't know where you would.  I can't recall the last time I installed 2003... Though it should be available on Technet for Eval/testing purposes.  (I think, I haven't looked).
