Fax Intermittently Doesn't Send Emails

Hi Guys,

One of my customers uses a fax in conjunction with SBS 2011 Std. We've only recently installed the server, last month to be exact and everything has gone fine. Our only kink is that for some reason every so often 1 fax doesn't get emailed through to the fax email account.

I've tried using the message tracking but 2011 has really messed that up in the web interface.

Is there any reason that this might happen, or how can I monitor this to make sure nothing dodgy is happening? Something makes me think it was delivered but was also deleted.

Many Thanks,
Auratek.

Do you mean the Fax server built into SBS ?

You could increase logging on the receive connector used for Fax and Sharepoint...
Use the Tracking logs (Another option in toolbox) rather than the web interface.

Check the size of the email trying to be sent by the fax.  If its larger than your Size limits then it wont send.

I have used the Tracking Logs as Scorpeo suggested, thanks for that! Much better tool. I have also added the fax logging as suggested by Arne.

I have no records of that specific fax being forwarded, however it does record others. Is there any reason that it might not send a single fax randomly?

I have also checked the size, it's 22KB, that's much smaller than some others that filter through so it's not a size issue.

Thanks so far guys!
How do you know that it is actually blocking the fax?

Do you have any blocked numbers setup on your fax machine?  Could it be denying the incoming fax?

The fax is being received in the console, however it never gets sent into the Inbox via SMTP. As the console accepts it, I can't see that the number is being blocked.
Fair comment.

Restart the fax service if you haven't already. Check the event log for any errors relating to Exchange or the Fax service.

Does it happen on random faxes or just this particular fax?
The number it is received from, should not have any effect on the email delivery.

if it received in the console, but not delivered via email, the first place to start monitoring is the receive connector, it could be that for some unknown reason, it is rejecting the email...

Created a batch file to restart the service every night and it appears to be holding on now.
