Can MS Server 2008 R2 Datacenter be upgraded (downgraded) to Server 2012 Standard

I have Server 2008 R2 SP1 Datacenter running on a dual core machine with currently two VMs.  This setup is used for development and testing but we do need the two vms.  2012 Datacenter does not appear to be offered in our MS Action Pack license but Standard is.  Can we upgrade, as in, not have to do a full re-install, from Datacenter to Standard?  It appears Standard will do everything we need.

Nope, sorry. You can't downgrade to a lower edition, even if the OS is newer.
