The answer depends a bit on the operating system. For Vista and later, the indexing for Outlook is included with and integrated with Windows.

Look at this E-E post and the last (accepted) answer which gives a good overview of setting up indexing.

You need to work through all the indexing settings (outlined in the above post) and then rebuild the index. A big index can take a couple of hours to rebuild.

I think the same indexing settings apply to Windows 8. Use Control Panel on the Desktop to get into Indexing Options. The screens in the link should be there. Still in Control Panel go to Programs and Features, Windows Features to see the other settings.

I had a look at that link but it looks like Win 7.

Im setting up a win 8 to have a look at it for the first time very soon.

My working system is Windows 7 (which is where the screen shots came from), but I have looked at my Windows 8 system and it seems to be very much the same in this regard.
