Greetings Experts,

I am urgently seeking some help with pulling together a JD for the role of a Digital Communications Officer - essentially the role involves SEO and google adwords work. Any snippets from a well formed description will be greatly appeciated - this afternoon!!

SEO/SEM Specialist

• Responsible for formalizing search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) strategies and tactics. Typical duties include analyzing website traffic and providing strategies for improvement; developing SEO website assessments and recommendations and translating them into technical requirements; and providing SEO guidance in technical areas such as server infrastructure, website structure and page construction. In-depth knowledge of SEO and online media is required.

Interactive Marketing Manager

• Manages the day-to-day operation of a company’s website and provides analytics review. Additional responsibilities may include identifying and ensuring the successful implementation of new marketing initiatives, managing an organization’s email marketing program, and collaborating with senior management to oversee multi- channel marketing assets associated with product launches. Requires excellent analytical and communication skills.

This is really good and succinct. Thank you for swift response. Can i ask, as usually I manage people in an area i am familar with, what do you consider realistic objectives and timelines in this type of work - any suggestions most appreciative and will close this later on in any case, kind regards. Objectives and timelines can vary depending on the size of the site being tracked.

In order to maximize the value of your optimization efforts, it is important to know not only the nature of any given change, but when it occurred. At a fundamental level, it is impossible to make a relationship between cause and effect without knowing the sequence of events.

To this end, it is useful for SEO to plot relevant events and data against a timeline. This is especially true for in-house SEO efforts, as such efforts usually pertain to large, complex websites where there are numerous factors that may influence a site’s search performance over time. Such a method is also most likely to be successful in an in-house environment, where access to information is easier and there is a better chance at long-term continuity of data collection.

If you start messing with too many SEO strategies at once, you’ll never know which one is working and which one you can scrap!

So it’s a good idea to keep track of the changes you’re making to your website and how they effect your site.

This could be a simple spread sheet or a dedicated notebook where you keep physical notes.  If you’re not keeping a log of what SEO strategies your using along with time-lines, it’s going to be very difficult to execute your SEO plans.

Some things you’ll want to track are:
Keyword rankings
Internal and External links
Pages in Index
Site Changes
Marketing Initiatives
Known Search Engine changes

The more types of time-based information in one place, the better you will be able to see patterns and make associations between different data points.
