sort enabled on protected sheet

What is the point of letting me enable sorting and autofilter in excel 2007 under the protection in the sheeet tab. Sure it lets me click on the filter button and select a method, but then it comes back and says protected.

In your example the cells that would be sorted (a2:b6) are locked.

This function/feature works if cells are unlocked...

I know they are locked. I want data sortable, but safe.  I created 2 macro buttons to lock and unlock after sorting by people that don't know excel at all.

You could be a bit smarter and have seperate button(s) to sort and use VB to unlock, sort,lock without the user actually knowing that was done.

If you record a macro and do what you what VBA/Macro to do, you can then tweak the output to suit assigned button(s)...
