SP 2007 Calculated column

I am using sharePoint 2007.

Is there a way in a calculated column to extract the first 3 characters of a string?
Ex.

If my column has "1.1.2.1".  Is there a way to just get "1.1"?

short answer: yes:

=LEFT(Column,3)
