Problems with Etron EJ168 USB 3.0 Controller

I'm having difficulty with the Etron USB 3.0 host controller on my Windows 8 Pro x64 system.

My 3 TB Lacie Minimus external drive is recognized by the host controller, but only intermittently. Recently, it was stable and accessible for nearly six days, but after a reboot for normal Windows Updates, the drive was not found.

I have performed a clean reinstall of the most recent drivers for the Etron EJ168 controller, which supports two USB 3.0 ports on my Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 motherboard, but I can still only use the external drive on the legacy (2.0) ports.

Any ideas?

Edit:

The motherboard BIOS has been updated to F11, the most recent stable release.

uninstall the latest windows update to test if the problem still exist
if better, disable these updates
you can also use a system restore

Looks to be a problem with the host controller. After all t/s steps completed, the controller will simply not work consistently.
