windows 7 recent places/ recent items - not showing folder

I had a folder dell scans that I would see if i went to recent items or recent places on my computer. But for some reason now it lists a series of folders that I use but that folder is no longer listed however the folder actually exist on the computer.
Basically i scan docs to a folder and then go to find them by using that recent places.
Please help me get this functionality back.
i tried the following:
%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
and got rid of the files in there but that didn't seem to solve the problem.

I see the files/folders are in c:\users\[username]\recent
I can delete the files but I can not add to that folder.
Is there any way to add the folder back with some kinda registry mod or command line ?
