will codeigniter still allow for user friendly url without mod_rewrite enabled ?

/controller/method etc ?

only users will have to specify index.php  before the controller ?

site/index.php//controller/method

Without mod_rewrite you'll see the index.php in the urls (which is the default) but that's about it--it won't use the ? format unless you explicitly configure it to do that.

so it'll look like your example

mydomain.com/index.php/controller/method (optionally you can add something like .html to the end of the method)

and not

mydomain/index.php?c=controller&m=method

Using rewrite is nice, though, because it looks and behaves entirely like a fully formed site path without the reference to index.php in it.
