Shocked at Google Drive or Gladinet having no file locking / read only notifications

Hello,

We have a few customers we recommended Google Apps for Business to, and who also require to use Google Drive for their shared storage.

When they use Gladinet Cloud Desktop or Google Drive for PC there is no file locking / read only notifications when two users open a Microsoft Word document at the same time.

This is a disaster as one user could overwrite another's work, I am very surprised and disappointed at how primitive all this is.

What are your thoughts on this? Am i right in saying this doesn't work?
I have tested the latest version of Gladinet Cloud Desktop which came out today.

Should i advise my customer to go back to a LAN environment as they require proper file locking for a group of AutoCAD engineers?

Regards,
Robbie.

What solution would you recommend for that?
Hello,

I was talking to Gladinet and they said they had a new release that would fix the problem and it would be released on the 28th January.

When it came out I installed the latest version of Gladinet Cloud Team Client on two PCs and I saved a Microsoft Word document in a Team Folder and opened it. Then I went to the other PC and opened it and it showed me a notification. I repeated the process again but this time there was no notification that the file was already opened.

When i talked to them about this they said they reproduced the problem and are trying to fix it. Then they said that automatic file locking of Office files when the file is open works most of the time. They also said when it works 100% of the time they will move on to other file types.

Can anyone recommend any other cloud computing companies that will meet the following needs for robust file sharing with AutoCAD DWG files?

1.

Desktop client to integrate with Windows Explorer

2.

Read only notifications when opening a file in use

3.

Can't edit, rename or delete a file that is open

4.

Has to work automatically like a Windows File Server (No extra steps needed such as manual locking)Regards,
Robbie.
