avaya phone system wiring

hello ,

i want to have an understanding on the wiring of he avaya a308.. the extentions have cat 5 cable going to a patch panel.. now question is on the pacth panel side do i just connect the pair of wires and run a pair all the way to the wall jack for a line..is that correct how it works .. or what is the setup from the patch panel to wall jack..

would like to know if i can run one pair (two wires) from patch panel to phone jack..

It depends on the phone model used, but most of the older Avaya Partner phones were four wire and therefore took two pairs.  The voice transmit and receive wires are separate from the signalling transmit and receive wires.

As confirmed in attached, you need one pair for analog devices and two pairs for the telephones.  The first pair wires to the center pins of the jack, and the second pair wires to the second pair (the two pins on either side of the center pin of a modular plug).

maybe im not clear from the patch panel to the wall jack can i run one pair only to the jack so the phone will work .

thanks. on the nortel phone systems they had one pair from patch panel to the phones thats why i figured it would be one pair...
