Enabling Chinese characters in OS-X mountain lion

Have a Macbook Pro on OS-X mountain lion with MS Office 2011 Std installed.

In Windows, I know how to enable Chinese characters to
be displayed in IE browser & MS Word and to be typed
into MS Word.  

How do I enable Chinese characters in my OS-X browsers (Safari, Chrome,
Firefox) & to edit/type/display the characters in MS Word (& Excel, Ppt &
Outlook if applicable)

Hi Sunhux,

Please go to System Preferences/Language & Text/Input Sources

Language Options
Here are the steps from Apple

That said make sure that your input flag box is checked, because it will allow you to easily peer over at your menu bar and see what language you are in. Also, it is shortcut to changing between the languages that you selected in the "input sources" tab.
