I am facing a slight confusion to setup Blackberry Express Server 5.4 in exchange 2010 coexistence with Exchange 2007 scenario.

I have existing Blackberry Enterprise Server 4.1 running in exchange 2007 environment.  Few days before I have setup & Configured Exchange 2010 SP2 with coexistence of existing exchange 2007.

I have gone through some article and found that BES 4.1 is not compatible with Exchange 2010. And we have decided to install new BES 5.4 Express  edition for our exchange 2010 users.

Existing BES 4.1 is configured with one Service account/mailbox called “BESadmin” with appropriate rights on exchange 2007.

Can I use the same service account/Mailbox “BESadmin” for new BES 5.4 with exchange 2010 if yes then how to proceed with it?

Is it to move BESadmin mailbox 1st to Exchange 2010 server after that we need to set the permission according to exchange 2010? Or if yes then is there any impact to existing users ?

Please suggest....

Hi,

it should work but not a very best practice though, I have worked with RIM engineer during our last migration to BES5 as we have migrated to Exchange 2010.

What we did is we create a new BES svc account for BES5 and give exchange and SQL permission you can find it on their KB.

I would suggest to use their Traporter Tool... we did a really seamless migration thanks to this tool.

Are you migrating all your 2007 users to 2010?

Yes, we have 50 + Bes users in exchange 2007/BES 4.1. So you mean to say create a new Service account with mailbox in exchange 2010 for new BES 5.4 installation?

Could you please let me know more clarity about transporter tool?

Yes create a new BES svc account with a mailbox and give permission on Exch2010.

If you are planning to migrate your users to exchange 2010, then Blackberry Transporter tool is a must..

http://docs.blackberry.com/en/admin/deliverables/7250/BlackBerry_Enterprise_Transporter_Guide.pdf

with this tool you do not have to wipe any device and re activate them, it will do all the job, so to the users side, they will only see few reboot i think 2 or 3 bb restart.
