Windows explorer opens and then searches forever

Windows 7 64 bit, when I open windows explorer, a green bar start across the top, like it is searching. It does not list the normal things download the left column, and no objects appear on the right hand side

I may have miss posted the problem When i boot up, the desktop appears normally. However, when i double click on the computer icon, or do a alt e, the windows opens, but nothing displays. the green bar moves across the top, but nothing appears.

it may be you have ram, or disk problems
dow<nload UBCD, make the cd - and boot from it
run memtest86+ for ram - 1 full pass
run disk diag for your disk brand - hdd section

I have run chkdsk, sfc, and spinrite to check hd. No problems found. As soon as you click on the Computer icon, all you get is a blank white box.

I have run the system recovery and restored the system to factory defaults.
The system is running normally.
