Accessing samba share hangs on Windows 8

I've got a FreeNAS virtual machine which is sharing a folder on my network.

On all my computers it has worked admirably up until now. My new Windows 8 computer will intermittently hang while trying to access the share.

Sometimes I'll get halfway into it - typing in my username/password, browsing the folders, and then I go to open a file and it hangs. Sometimes it will just hang right away. It's very intermittent but it almost always hangs at SOME point.

The rest of the network is working fine. Everybody is connected via ethernet cables to a 24-port gigabit switch. The internet and the rest of the local network works fine at the moment that the fileserver is hanging.

Name resolution is being done using a local DNS server and is working properly at the moment that things hang. The FreePBX box has a static IP.

When the fileserver is hanging on the Windows 8 machine, I can immediately switch over to a Windows 7 laptop or a linux machine, and I can access the fileserver just fine on those machines so it isn't a problem with FreePBX or my VMWare host.

I'm baffled. Seems like a bug in Windows 8. Does anybody have any insights?

Hi.

Does not have to be a bug in 8, could as well be a bug in the NIC driver. Please try the following:
-renew the NIC driver at the client and retry. If no better
->uninstall any security software on win8 (no use deactivating, uninstall and restart). if no better
->update the firmware of your FreePBX box if possible and retry

It could very well be the network card or drivers. It is very flaky behavior and I am not seeing it on other Windows 8 machines.

...but you didn't have the time to test?
