HI,
The static pages on my website are working fine, but asp.net pages are not for some reason. Can someone please explain how this could be?

Thanks

Does your website have an application pool?

IIS 6 or 7?  IS the website/Application/Virtual Directory configured with the correct version of .Net?

Are all Apps in the configured pool running the same version of .net?

What happens when you try to browse it?

HI there ged325. It's IIS7, and it has an application pool. Do you mean make sure it has the latest version of .NET? Was one released recently or something? I'll check.

I just went through this myself so you're in luck.

Does the server or anything have Sharepoint on it (or maybe TFS?)

On the WEBSITE (eg: Default web site)
On the actions tab (right most pane)
Configure -> Failed Request Log Tracing
Set it to some directory,
50 is fine for the trace files, (it's a rolling log) but feel free to add / take away some.

On the APPLICATION (which your site should be configured as an application)
Failed Request Tracing Rules (under IIS section in the middle pane)
All Content
Status Codes 500, Event Severity Error.  Finish

cmd -> IISRESET

Rebrowse the asp pages, get an error.  Now you're armed with some info!
Go to the directory you configured for the logs.  In there is an XML file.  Double click.

Now for the really annoying part:  More than likely it's a Notification 128 HTTP Satus 500 operation completed successfully error.  (<rant> Really?  If it completed successfully why am I getting this error?  C'mon Microsoft </rant>).

A couple of reasons I have found:

1)  Your server is 64 bit, and you built the app in x86 or any CPU.
Option A:  Set the application pool to allow 32 bit processes.
Option B:  Go to the PROJECT file in Visual Studios -> Properties.  Under build (2nd option down from Application) select platform target x64.  (Note that if you're client is 32 bit, it won't let you run this now locally.  Just copy up the new DLL and you can switch back and rebuild.)    I have found this option was the only way to get my app to work correctly.

2) Modify the app pool to Load User Profile (it's in the advance settings)

3)  You're missing some entries from your web config.
This webconfig worked for me.  Not that the remove AboMapper may have a different number (handledrs).  I'm also using telerik so thatt may not apply.  It's suggested you do a MERGE of this rather than a copy/replace.

After all of that is said and done, try an iisreset again, and try to browse your ASPX pages.  Should it not be the 128/500/Operation Successful bit, post your error message and we can look at.  (Google is a great place for looking that info up).

Post your results and let me know.
