add distribution list group mailbox to outlook

I know that I can open the mailbox of another individual in Outlook. But how can I open the mailbox of a distribution list? The list is listed in Exchange address book, but when I go to add its mailbox, I get an error saying "The name cannot be resolved. The name cannot be matched a name in the address list". I know the list is there because I can see it in the Global Address list, but yet it cannot find it.

Any help is appreciated

i actually spoke with some colleagues and was told that this distribution group does not have a mailbox-rather it is just that-a distribution list. So importunately it appears that this is not possible.
