Windows 7 computer.
Had IE9  - Reverted to IE8
Have scrubbed it for parasites and found hardly any even though the system had to AV protection when I got it.  It does now of course...
I've given it a pretty good scrub but not the "acid test" variety yet.  So, I guess that always a possibility .. but if that were the case then I'd usually have found quite a few using the "normal" methods with Malwarebytes, etc. etc.  Used RogueKiller too.

I installed Chrome and it works fine.
But, if IE8 has Protected Mode turned on then pages load at a snail's pace - I mean REALLY slowly.

So I'm casting about looking for why this would be happening.  I've never seen this kind of behavior over a LOT of computers.....

Why isn't IE on the Topics list here???

Check and see if IE has lots of add-ins. Selectively disable and look for changes.

Also, run iexplore -extoff to run IE in Safe Mode.  Any difference in operation.

You can try resetting IE (Tools, Internet Options, Advanced and Reset). This brings IE back to out of the box settings, clears forms, history and cookies. See if that changes things.

Thanks.  Somehow I had the impression that there were but few of them (addons) and benign at that.  Not correct.
Disabling them fixed it!!
