SharePoint 2010 capture value before change

Hi,

How can I use SP Designer 2010 to capture a value before it was changed?

I have a list with a column called "End Date".  If the user changes it, I want to capture the value before it was changed and enter it into another column called, "Previous Date".

I'm having a hard time with this.

Any ideas/

You can enable versioning and query a previous value or store the id and end date in a secondary list and update the current list from there.
Or you write an event receiver that grabs the value before update and use that value - but that requires coding
