Citrix Metaframe XP "cannot connect to citrix xenapp server. Can't assign requested address"

We log into a customer's server using Citrix Metaframe XP through a web browser to view Excel and pdf documents.

We have an issue that one machine will not open Excel or Acrobat reader on the server erroring with "cannot connect to citrix xenapp server. Can't assign requested address".  

This issue only occurred this week.  It has been working fine prior to this.

We can however access this OK with other machines on the same domain and machines outside of our network it is just a single machine that is been problematic.

Googling this issue advises to reboot the Citrix server, however we do not manage this and the people that do claim as this is working fine for everyone else the issue lies with the individual PC.

The machine is running Windows XP Pro with SP3 and Internet Explorer 8

Here is what I have done so far;

System Restore to a time I know the software worked
Reset IE to default settings
Installed Firefox which had the same error message
Deleted anything to do with Citrix and reinstalled XenAppWeb.msi (which is all that is installed on the working machines)
Changed the IP address on the local machine
Disabled antivirus on the local machine
Tested through an different account with full admin rights.
Flushed the DNS
The problem machine has the same default gateway and DNS settings as the machines that work.

None of the above resolved the issue.  Anyone have any further ideas?

Hi,

Four  things your might want to try:

1. Configure the following in your WebInterface.conf file: EnableProxy=Auto

2. Add 'ProxyType=Auto' in your Template.ica file

3.Uninstall and unistall citrix webclient and reboot the desktop

4.Reset user profile on citrix server and check user proxy settings are set properly on his desktop

Hi, thanks for your response.  I cannot find the files mentioned on the problem PC.  Are these files on the Citrix server in which case I do not have access or have I missed something?

What version of the client is installed on that client machine? Try the 7.0 or 8.0 client.

compare the proxy settings from problem device with working one.
if this want help,
try to disable ALL Checkboxes within proxy settings.

Hi, thanks for all your responses.  Unfortunately the issue is still there.  I have tried both version 7, 8 and the newest 9.15 all to no avail (same error).

The proxy settings are the same on the problem machine as the others.

1) Is the problem PC able to access the application by going the the Citrix farms web interface?
2) Are all usrs have Citrix problems from this one PC or is it isolated to one user?
3) Is the Windows firewall on?
4) Create a new test local account on the workstation and try to lauch the Citrix client. Do you get the same error?
5) Try to uninstall the Citrix Client but make sure you remove everything: i.e: all reference to the client in the registry.. C:\Program Files... and user's Application Data...etc then reinstall
6) Has anything new or changed on this workstation recently?

Hi thanks to everyone for their input for this issue.  Apologises I have not responded I have been away the last week.

During this time, my colleague decided to re-install the machine which has resolved the issue.
