Hi all!

We've had a server crash with SBS2011, and need to do a restore to a VMware computer/image. We have a huge problem in finding similar hardware to restore/recover from Windows backup, so we have tried to restore to a VMWare machine. Of course it just boots into a bluescreen, because of the missing/different harddisk drivers in VMWare. Is it a way where we can install the drivers/convert the virtualized machine to start properly?

Of course this is urgent, as the customer is without their server for the moment...

Thanks!

after the restore, into a VM, have you tried a repair on the OS from the DVD.

Yes, it said that it couldn't repair the computer automatically, and that the "problem signature07" was "BadDriver".

Use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone (free). Choose "Configure Machine" from the top menu, and browse to the vmx-file. Then choose "Customize guest preferences for the virtual machine", "Reconfigure destination virtual machine" and "Install VMware Tools on the destination virtual machine".

Voilá!
