I have a site here http://www.kitchensofdenver.com/countertops/ and want to replace that shadow with just a vertical line.  What would I need to adjust in the css to accomplish that?

That images is the background of the div #content-area. You set this background in two different lines 214 and 648, so first you can simply delete the oine 214 which is unneeded.
Then, replace the background image sidebar-bg.png with a new image of a single line.
This is the simplest way to do it, since adding a border left to the content-area breaks your layout.

Hope this helps.
