Email Sender with Delayed Delivery for vb

HI:

I'm trying to develop an email sender program that has a delayed delivery function in Visual Basic (2010).  Simply put, the email will be auto-sent when a particulary event, in this case a date, has been reached. I have IF...THEN statements, Loops, and Timers floating in my mind, but I haven't quite put it all together. Any ideas on where to start, or suggestions on particular code?  MS Outlook has the functionality.

Another option is to just have an application which sends an email but schedule it to run at a particular time using Task Scheduler in Windows.

A timer which fires every x minutes and check the current date/time and sends an email if it meets the condition?

Yes thats right.  But I suppose the application will have to always be in usage to make the timer active.  Better yet if the application is not in full usage, but the timer is, such that the email can be sent.

But you've got the general concept.  Several different pieces of a puzzle that will have to come together, I've garnered.

Task Scheduler.  I've never used this.  I will do some research and get back to you.
