Install full Backup Exec 2010 on a different server then SBS?

I just had to rebuild an SBS 2011 box. I have it running as a guest on a Server 2008R2 host. I have the full version of Backup Exec 2010R3 with all the licensing for the agents (exchange, sharepoint, SQL, etc.) I also have the license for SBS.

My question is I don't want to put Backup Exec on the SBS box, as that box is an atrocity by itself already, I like to minimize the amount of software that is loaded on there.  I want to install it on a seperate server, and then install the remote agent on the SBS box.

Has anyone ever done this, or has had any issues with this?

You can deploy Backup Exec to another box without issue.  Just make sure to install the Windows Remote Agent and Exchange Agent on the SBS server so it can properly do Exchange backups using GRT.  I agree with you, SBS is already so heavily loaded with all those roles on one box, it doesn't make sense to put additional software on it.

Ok, thank you very much. I assumed I could, but with SBS all rules go out the window. I'm so glad SBS will now be a thing of the past, as it's such a ticking time bomb.
